An average week....

... involes not much else but working on or thinking about this project - or at least thats what it feels like recently lol!

Just a quick update for you on a few "custom" mods ive been working on the past few weeks.

First up my "air box mod"

Nothing hugly dramatic or ground breaking i can assure you, but you might find it intresting.

After having a HKS "mushroom" on my EG6 and quite frankly deciding it was naff, this time round i decided to stick with standard. Forgeting all the equations and formulas etc, no matter what way you look at the design of the std EG air box its pritty complex - this says me to honda spent alot of yen and hours developing it so it must be pritty good? right?

So anyway the only thing i wanted to "add" as a direct cold air feed, the standard intake pipe runs back up into the engine bay drawing in all the loverly warm air heated by the engine itself. As we all know colder the air into the car = a better more efficient burn.

So i got myself some pipe work and random bits of metal with a strange overly complex design in my head and made a start. I wanted a section of hard pipe, so i could then "jubilee clip" a section of flex hose onto, but mounting the hard pipe onto a plastic air box would invole some fabrication - yay my fav!

So i figured if i could mount a plate to the inside of the box, with 4 "tabs" poking out thro a hole. The plates would then attach to the hard pipe, all screw together nice and a solid base would be made!

My 1st attempt at a location for the pipe went horribly wrong, i cut into the diagonal section on the resonator box, thinking it would be an ideal place - wrong! it only pointed the tube 2mm away from the side of the bumper with zero room to fix and bend some flex pipe onto it.
So another air box and a better location (read obviouse doh!) where needed, fortunatly Ben (Civic_EG_Northants) had a spare he kindly donated to the project!

Well i wont go on too much but heres the end result :D

The "flex pipe" will be cut down to lenght but as i dont rightly know how much ill need ill keep it the lenght it is for the moment!

As you can "kind of" see, the metal "tabs, that fix the hard pipe to the metal plate, and the 4 bolts that fix the metal plate to the resonator box itself! All it needs now is some sealant and im contemplating fitting a mesh to fitler out any large stones and other gunk we have left on our loverly "clean" uk roads!

From the view of a tiny air partical about to have the ride of its life lol!

So that combined with a K&N or "spooom y0!" pannel filter will do me just fine!

Next up was reinforcing the front cross member!

A part that is almost always over looked, and ill easily hold my hands up and say this is not my idea i had it surgested to me, and since im uprating my front a/r bar from 21mm to 24mm adding an EG6 VTi reinforcment rod seamed apt.

So now it needs a good lick of hammerite and then its ready for the new shell :D

My teg rad should be here tommorrow, and ive pre made some new "stands" for it to, well, stand on! as it needs to sit lower than the original civic one, and is also full width, so ive had the original rad and air con stands cut off in preperation on the new shell (tho i had already cut them off my old shell). I used the original stands and "made them fit" and weld them to some metal plates, Ive also made them a bit too long (as you can see), but once i have the rad i can figure out where im gonna attach them to, and cut them down to size properly!

The areas ringed blue are where the air con stands where, the area in yellow where the rad stands where.

So expect another mini update tommorrow, ill prob just edit this post tbh!

Ive also just finshed getting my calipers sorted, i had a pair of NSX front calipers which i had used on my old black EG6, ive been "slowly" stripping down all the old red paint off them, so now im thinking either re-paint in red, or maybe a goldish colour (as most std nsx calipers are goldish) or maybe even yellow.. im not sure. Anyway some twin pot NSX goodness for you:

I also got myself some MB6 rear calipers (brand new for only £40 :D) and some prelude carriers to fit the 262mm rear disks, but have now found that where the carrier bolts to the hub the bolt holes are slightly out. So im not sure if ill have to get teg rear calipers in the end, or maybe get my hubs holes changed to suit... prob the latter as im a tight wad, and it will still be strong enough.
These along with goodridge hoses and my ITR Master brake cylinder should provide ample stopping power!

Next up a mod i finished off a good few months back, my Power steering removal Kit!

When i started the project all sorts of ideas where floating in my head, removing the p/s was but one of them, and when my engine turned up it lacked the p/s pump and so kind seatled the deal ;)

Now once i started looking into it, it became apparent that there was as ever mor ethan one way to go about it. The first being a stright loop from "intake" to "exhaust" but this made for a heavey turn, and made checking the level and topping up/chnaging the fluid hard. The other way was to loop the in and out, as well as a "t" piece connected to a resoviour. this would allow the system to "breath" and made topping up and changing the fluid easier!

Now a guy on hondatech.com (y0!) makes these kits, and agreed to make up and sell me one, but we lost contact over christmas so i thought why not make my own?

So once more to work my freinds! My job dealing with instruments and electronics all day long means I deal with lot of pipe work and fittings - all the parts i needed!

So a few bits of bent 8mm pipe, one rather expencive high pressure fitting, the 2 std pipe fittings, some flex pipe, a few small hose clips and a spare std civic clutch res later:

The black hose running off to the left leads to the res, which im still deciding where to mount it, but ill decide once the engine is in!

I needed to test fit it to my ITR steering rack, to see if i would have any issure with the carbon canister and the rear engine mount but i think ill be ok!

Ive also been busying myself with a few "how 2's" most recent has been how to fit 5 stud to a 4 stud civic, this will be posted up on the various forums i frequent as soon as its ready, im trying hard to make it "idiot" proof and include lots of purty piccys :D

Anway thats all for now, thanks for reading!
